COM 386: Quantitative Research Methods in Communication

Course Description: Design and implementation of communication research methods, including experimental and survey research procedures. Use of computer software for statistical analysis.

Course Objectives: 

  • Identify and compose conceptual and operational definitions for independent and dependent variables
  • Analyze foundational research issues such as sampling, measurement, and ethics
  • Apply research methods to specific communication questions
  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages for studying communication problems with various social scientific methods
  • Analyze data using statistical analysis software

COM 226: Introduction to Public Relations

Course Description: Public relations as a communication function of organizations. Public relations process, principles, history, and practice. Analysis of environmental, organizational, communication, and audience influences on public relations practice; career opportunities.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain to others what the public relations function is and how it works.
  • Discuss the role of the law and ethics in public relations.
  • Apply public relations theory to real life examples.
  • Explain the role of research, strategy, and planning in the public relations field
