Teaching Portfolio – Elizabeth A. Johnson-Young

This section of the site is intended to demonstrate my experiences with and ideas about teaching. I hope these pages provide the reader with a sense of who I am as a teacher and what I can offer students in a college classroom.

I began my journey in higher education teaching in the Department of Communication at Virginia Tech. While teaching Public Speaking I had mentors and peers to guide me through the process of being a first time teacher.This included in-class observations and feedback and a communication pedagogy course in which we investigated common issues in the classroom and designed our own courses from start to finish. By the end of my two years, I knew I wanted to continue to teach and grow as an instructor. After spending a year teaching communication courses at Guilford Technical Community College I am back in school and teaching at North Carolina State University. Here I am among peers and scholars that value the study of pedagogy and am in a department on the cutting edge of technology in the college classroom.
